Hello. This is the story of David. David is a young boy. He is a shepherd. He takes care of sheep every day, leading them safely across the green hills and valleys. David is small and humble, but he has a brave heart. His days are filled with the songs of birds and the soft bleating of his flock. Though he is young, he knows the mountains and valleys like the back of his hand. He plays his little harp under the wide sky, and he prays with hope in his heart.

Not far away from where David lives, across a deep valley, there was a giant. His name was Goliath. Goliath was enormous! He was much taller than any man anyone had ever seen. His armor shined under the sun, and his big sword looked as if it could chop down a tree in one swing. He also carried a huge shield that could protect him from any arrow or rock. People whispered stories about his great strength, and they said no one could defeat him.

Goliath was very proud. He believed that because he was large and strong, no one could ever be his rival. Every morning, he would stand at the edge of the valley and shout at the people on the other side. His deep voice roared like thunder through the mountains as he asked many questions:

“Who is my rival? Who dares to fight me?”

“Where is your champion who can prove his power?”

“Show me your might! Show me your strength!”

The King, leading the people on the other side of the valley, was afraid of Goliath. He gathered his soldiers, but even the bravest among them avoided looking at the giant. The soldiers whispered to each other, “He is a monster! No one can stand against him!”

David was also listening. While the older men feared the giant, David did not. Though he was just a small shepherd boy, he had something stronger than muscles or big swords. David had faith. “I am a shepherd,” David said to himself quietly, “but I am not afraid. I have God in my heart. That is my strength.”

One day, as the sun rose high and the valley lay quiet, David decided to visit the king’s camp. He wanted to help, even though he was young and small. When David arrived, many men looked down on him. “What can a boy do against the giant?” some whispered. But David did not mind. His eyes were steady, and his heart was full of courage.

King Saul saw David and asked, “Are you the boy who plays the harp?”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” David answered politely. “And I want to fight Goliath.”

The king was surprised. “You are too young. Goliath is a giant! You have no armor, no sword. How will you fight such a monster?”

David smiled gently. “I don’t need armor or swords. I have faced wild animals that threatened my sheep. God has helped me then, and He will help me now.”

King Saul thought for a moment. Then he gave his blessing and offered David his own armor. But David shook his head. “I can’t walk in these heavy things. I am not used to them.” David placed the helmet back on the ground and took only his sling and a few small stones from a nearby stream.

The soldiers gathered around to watch what would happen. Goliath was waiting on the other side of the valley, his voice booming louder than ever:

“Come! Show me your champion, or run away with your tail between your legs!”
