In a land far, far away, there was a magical kingdom where the future of every person was determined by the first letter of their name. The wise elders of the kingdom believed that a person’s name held the key to their destiny. And so, they devised a unique way to classify everyone into three houses: House A, House B, and House C.

Those who belonged to House A were destined to become thieves, skilled in the art of stealth and trickery. They were trained from a young age to be quick with their hands and sharp with their minds. The people of House B were destined to be the leaders of the kingdom, guiding the people with wisdom and courage. They were educated in the ways of diplomacy, justice, and governance. Lastly, the members of House C were destined to pursue a specific profession based on the traditions of their families. These professions ranged from blacksmithing to baking, from teaching to tailoring.

In this kingdom, there lived a young boy named Aidan. As his name began with the letter A, he was placed in House A, destined to follow in the footsteps of his father, Antonio, who was a master thief. Antonio was known far and wide for his skill in stealing without leaving a trace. He was proud of his craft and even prouder that his son would one day take his place.

From a very young age, Aidan was trained by his father in the ways of House A. Antonio taught him how to move silently in the night, how to pick locks with ease, and how to disappear into the shadows. Aidan learned quickly and soon became quite skilled. However, deep down in his heart, Aidan didn’t want to be a thief. He didn’t want to spend his life sneaking around and taking things that didn’t belong to him. But in a kingdom where your name determined your fate, Aidan felt trapped.

One day, while practicing his skills in the forest near his home, Aidan came across a girl named Bárbara. Bárbara was from House B, and she was as different from Aidan as the sun is from the moon. She was confident, kind, and always spoke of making the kingdom a better place for everyone. Bárbara was being trained to be a leader, and she took her role very seriously.

Aidan was immediately drawn to Bárbara’s warmth and vision for the future. But he knew that if he told her he was from House A, she might not want to be friends with him. So, he made a decision that would change his life forever. He decided to lie.

«Hello, I’m Aidan,» he said with a smile. «I’m from House B, just like you.»

Bárbara smiled back, and from that day on, the two became inseparable. They spent their days exploring the kingdom, dreaming of ways to make it a better place for everyone. Aidan enjoyed every moment with Bárbara, but as time passed, the guilt of his lie began to weigh heavily on his heart.

One evening, as they sat by a sparkling river, Bárbara turned to Aidan with a serious expression.

«Aidan,» she began, «I’ve noticed that you never talk about your family or your training. Why is that?»

Aidan’s heart raced. He knew he couldn’t keep up the lie any longer.

«Bárbara,» he said quietly, «I haven’t been honest with you. I’m not really from House B. I’m from House A. My father is Antonio, the master thief, and I’m supposed to be one too.»

For a moment, there was silence between them. Aidan could feel his heart pounding in his chest, afraid of what Bárbara might say.

Bárbara looked at him with sadness in her eyes. «Why didn’t you tell me the truth, Aidan? I thought we were friends.»

«I didn’t want to lose you,» Aidan confessed. «I didn’t want you to think less of me because of where I come from.»

Bárbara sighed. «Aidan, it’s not about where you come from; it’s about who you choose to be. But you lied to me, and that hurts. I need some time to think.»

The next day, Bárbara packed her belongings and left to live in another part of the kingdom. She couldn’t stay where she felt betrayed by someone she had cared for so deeply. Aidan watched her leave, his heart heavy with regret.

Determined to change his destiny, Aidan made a bold decision. He would not become a thief like his father. Instead, he would study and learn how to make a difference in the kingdom, just like Bárbara had always dreamed of doing. But there was one problem: the laws of the kingdom did not allow someone from House A to pursue any path other than thievery.

Undeterred, Aidan sought out the leader of the kingdom, a wise and just ruler known as the Supreme Leader. It took weeks of waiting, but finally, Aidan was granted an audience.

«Your Majesty,» Aidan began, bowing respectfully, «I know that the rules of the kingdom state that I must follow the path of my house, but I wish to change my destiny. I want to study and learn, so I can help lead the kingdom to a brighter future.»

The Supreme Leader looked at Aidan thoughtfully. «You are asking for something that has never been done before, young man. Why should I allow you to break the rules that have guided our kingdom for centuries?»
