Once upon a time, in an ancient castle nestled atop a hill, Esteban and Alejandra, two adventurous and energetic kids, spent their afternoons playing volleyball in the spacious courtyard. The castle, with its tall stone walls and high towers, made for the perfect playground, and the two friends often imagined they were heroes protecting the fortress from invaders. Esteban, with his short brown hair and athletic build, was quick on his feet, always diving for the ball. Alejandra, with her long dark hair and confident smile, was known for her powerful serves that seemed to fly faster than the wind.
It was a sunny afternoon, and the two were in the middle of an intense game. The ball soared back and forth between them, bouncing off the castle walls and echoing through the empty corridors. Every time Alejandra sent the ball hurtling toward Esteban, he would leap into the air and return it with equal force. They laughed and shouted, completely absorbed in the game.
But then, something strange happened.
Alejandra served the ball with all her might, and as it sailed through the air, just inches from Esteban’s hands, it vanished. The ball was gone—completely disappeared without a trace.
“What… just happened?” Esteban asked, staring at the empty space where the ball had been a second ago.
“I don’t know!” Alejandra replied, confused. “Did you see where it went?”
Both of them searched the courtyard, peeking behind the walls, looking under benches, and even checking the nearby bushes. But there was no sign of the ball. It was as if it had been swallowed by the air itself.
Suddenly, they heard a faint chuckle coming from behind one of the castle’s walls. Esteban and Alejandra exchanged a quick glance and cautiously approached the sound. As they rounded the corner, they came face to face with Bryan.
Bryan was a mischievous boy who lived nearby and had a reputation for causing trouble. His sandy hair fell into his eyes, which sparkled with amusement. His grin was wide, but there was something off about the way he looked at them.
“Looking for something?” Bryan asked, barely suppressing a laugh.
“Bryan, do you know where our ball is?” Alejandra demanded, her hands on her hips.
“Oh, I know exactly where it is,” Bryan said, stepping forward, his sly grin growing even wider. “But I’m not sure you’ll be able to get it back.”
Esteban narrowed his eyes. “What do you mean?”
Bryan raised his hands, and in an instant, the air around them shifted. Suddenly, the volleyball reappeared, floating in mid-air just above their heads. Esteban and Alejandra gasped. The ball hovered for a moment, then vanished again just as quickly as it had appeared.
“You see,” Bryan said, crossing his arms, “I have powers. Powers that let me make things disappear… or reappear. And right now, I don’t feel like letting you play anymore.”
Esteban and Alejandra were stunned. Bryan had always been known for his pranks, but this was something entirely new. He had powers? They exchanged a quick look, both realizing at the same moment that they weren’t just dealing with an ordinary boy. Bryan had become something more—a boy with the ability to control the world around him.
But Esteban and Alejandra weren’t about to let Bryan ruin their day. If he could use his powers to make things disappear, maybe they could find a way to stop him.
“We’re not scared of you, Bryan,” Alejandra said, stepping forward bravely. “Whatever you’re trying to do, we’ll figure out how to stop it.”
Bryan chuckled again. “Good luck with that.”
And with a snap of his fingers, not only did the volleyball vanish again, but so did the net, the benches, and even some of the stones from the castle walls. Esteban and Alejandra looked around in shock as parts of the courtyard faded away into thin air.
Esteban clenched his fists. “We’ve got to do something.”
Alejandra nodded. “But what? We don’t have powers like he does.”
Esteban thought for a moment, then an idea came to him. “Maybe we don’t have powers… but we have each other. And if we work together, maybe we can outsmart him.”
They huddled together, whispering their plan. Bryan watched them, clearly amused, but unaware of what they were up to.
Suddenly, Alejandra stood up straight and called out, “Hey Bryan! I bet you can’t make something disappear if I’m holding it!”
Bryan raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? Is that a challenge?”
Alejandra grabbed a small rock from the ground and held it out in her hand. “Go ahead. Try it.”
Bryan smirked and raised his hands, preparing to make the rock vanish. But just as he did, Esteban sprinted behind him, using the momentary distraction to grab the volleyball that had just reappeared on the ground.
Alejandra tossed the rock into the air, and as Bryan focused on it, Esteban whispered, “Now!”
Alejandra lunged at Bryan, grabbing his wrist. Esteban, meanwhile, threw the volleyball at Bryan with all his strength. The ball struck Bryan’s hand, causing him to lose focus for just a second. In that brief moment, his control over his powers faltered. Everything that had disappeared—the net, the benches, the castle stones—reappeared in an instant.
Bryan gasped, his eyes wide in shock. “How did you—?”
“We may not have powers like you,” Esteban said, grinning, “but we know how to work together.”
Bryan stumbled back, clearly realizing that he had underestimated them. His mischievous grin faded, replaced by a look of frustration.
“This isn’t over,” he muttered before turning and running away, disappearing into the shadows of the castle.
Esteban and Alejandra stood side by side, watching him go.
“We did it,” Alejandra said, smiling.
“Yeah,” Esteban agreed, catching his breath. “But something tells me Bryan will be back.”
For now, though, the castle was theirs again. The volleyball game continued, the sun shining brightly overhead, and the laughter of two friends filled the air. They knew they would face Bryan again one day, but they were ready—because together, they were unstoppable.
The End.
