Adrian lived with his family in a beautiful valley surrounded by tall mountains, where a clear river flowed peacefully through the land. Every morning, the sunlight danced on the sparkling water, and the birds sang sweet melodies from the branches of tall trees. The air was fresh, and the flowers bloomed brightly in every corner. Adrian loved to explore the valley, run beside the river, and watch the fish swimming happily beneath the surface. Life there was quiet and full of joy.
Adrian’s parents, Mamá and Papá, had lived in the valley their whole lives. Mamá was a warm and caring woman who tended to their garden and helped Adrian with his schoolwork. Papá was a hardworking man who often went into the forest to gather wood and sometimes, sadly, to cut down trees for building projects or to sell. Adrian admired his father, but sometimes he worried when he saw trees falling.
For many years, the valley remained untouched by trouble. The people who lived there were few and simple, and they took care of the land like it was a gift. But as time passed, things began to change. More families arrived, attracted by the beauty of the valley and the promise of a peaceful life. At first, it was wonderful to meet new neighbors and play with new friends. However, the newcomers did not all understand the importance of keeping the valley clean. Slowly, rubbish started to pile up near the riverbanks, plastic and bottles were thrown on the ground, and the water began to lose its sparkle. The fish that Adrian loved to watch grew fewer and fewer.
One afternoon, Adrian went to his favorite spot beside the river. But today, instead of clear water and colorful stones, he saw dirty water filled with trash. His heart sank. The smell was bad, and he noticed the plants near the riverbank were wilting. The river that had given life to the valley was now sick. Adrian felt a deep sadness.
“Why is this happening?” he asked himself. He decided to find answers.
He started by talking to some of the locals. At first, many shrugged and said it wasn’t their problem. Some even laughed when he asked about the garbage. But Adrian didn’t give up. He noticed that many people simply didn’t realize how serious the damage was. They thought the river and the valley would always be there, no matter what.
One day, Adrian went home feeling heavy with worry. He sat down with Mamá and Papá to talk about what he had seen.
“Papa, the river is so dirty now. Why are the people throwing garbage everywhere?” Adrian asked.
Papá sighed deeply. “I have seen it too, son. Many have forgotten how important the valley is. They don’t understand that if we do not care for the land and water, we will lose everything.”
Adrian looked at his father. “Papa, sometimes you cut down trees too. Doesn’t that hurt the valley?”
Papá looked away for a moment. “Yes, it does. I do it because we need wood to build and sometimes to earn money. But I worry if I cut too many trees, it will harm the forest. Maybe I have been careless.”
Mamá joined the conversation. “We all must change, Adrian. We must take care of the valley together. No more cutting trees that aren’t necessary, and no more throwing rubbish around. It’s everyone’s responsibility.”
Adrian felt hope swell inside him. “I want to help make the valley like it was before. I will talk to everyone and explain why this is so important.”
The next day, Adrian began his mission. He went door to door, speaking to his neighbors. Some were surprised to hear a boy speaking so strongly, but many listened carefully. Adrian showed them the dirty river water and explained how the trash was killing the fish and plants. He told them that if the river became too polluted, the flowers and trees would stop growing, animals would leave, and the valley would lose its magic.
Many people started to feel guilty because they had not realized the harm they were causing. Adrian didn’t just talk about problems—he offered solutions. He suggested everyone work together to clean up the riverbanks and create places where rubbish could be thrown properly. He reminded them that the trees provided shade, clean air, and homes for animals, so cutting them down without thinking would hurt everyone.
One of Adrian’s best friends, Lucia, joined him. She was enthusiastic and had many ideas. “What if we plant new trees to replace the ones that were cut?” she asked.
“That’s a great idea!” Adrian smiled. “We can organize a day to plant as many trees as we can.”
With Mamá’s encouragement, the children made colorful posters to invite everyone to a community clean-up day. Papá, who had been quiet for much of the time, stood up and said, “I will stop cutting trees unnecessarily. I will help you clean the river and plant new ones. Our valley is our home.”
The day of the clean-up arrived, and many people came out to help. Some wore gloves and boots, while others brought rakes and shovels. Children picked up trash, and parents worked to clear away debris. Slowly but surely, the river began to gleam again. Fish started to return, swimming happily in the fresher water. With the help of seedlings brought by Lucia’s family, new trees were planted along the banks, promising shade and shelter for years to come.
Adrian felt proud when Mamá gave him a warm hug. “You inspired everyone to care for the valley again,” she said softly.
