In the small and peaceful town of Willowdale, Hillcrest School was known for its ancient corridors and a story that nobody dared to tell. Ruperta, a brave 11-year-old girl with brown hair tied in two braids and eyes full of curiosity, had always been fascinated by mysteries. But she never imagined that she would be the protagonist of one.
It was a full moon night when Ruperta decided to investigate the school after hours, driven by rumors that a spirit roamed the hallways. She carried with her a flashlight, her adventure diary, and a fearless spirit. What she found, however, was far more terrifying and strange than any legend had suggested.
In the confines of the school, she came across a grotesque figure: a tattered and dirty chicken costume, inside which hid Barney, the school janitor. Barney, a man with a shifty gaze and trembling voice, was known for his odd behavior, but no one in town suspected the darkness of his secrets.
Ruperta hid behind a statue of the school’s founder, her heart beating fast as she watched Barney. He talked to himself, muttering about a plan to terrorize the children and take revenge on those who had mocked him. Ruperta, with her characteristic bravery, decided to confront him.
Armed only with her flashlight and wit, Ruperta emerged from her hiding place. “Barney!” she exclaimed with a firmer voice than she felt. “Your plans are over!”
Barney turned around, surprised by Ruperta’s appearance. His eyes shone with unsettling madness under the moonlight. “You can’t stop me!” he yelled, advancing towards Ruperta.
But Ruperta, although scared, did not back down. She ran through the hallways, leading Barney towards the trap she had prepared beforehand. With an agile jump, Ruperta activated a rope that released a net over Barney, immobilizing him.
Parents and teachers, alerted by the noise, arrived just in time to see Ruperta facing Barney. The police were called, and Barney was arrested, revealing that his intention had never been to hurt anyone, but only to scare them as revenge for feeling ignored and underestimated.
Ruperta’s brave act not only saved her classmates from a terrifying experience but also brought to light the need to pay attention and care to all community members.
From that night on, Ruperta was known not only as an excellent student but also as the brave girl who solved the mystery of the Nighttime School’s Chicken. And although Barney was sent to get help, the legend of the chicken continued to be told at Hillcrest, now with an ending that highlighted the courage and cunning of a girl who did not let fear rule her heart.
The mystery was solved, but Ruperta’s adventures were just beginning. With every dark corner illuminated and every mystery unraveled, she knew there would always be more to discover and face. Because in Ruperta’s world, courage and curiosity always triumphed over fear and uncertainty.
